*All students should have reached one half of their AR goals this week. Each student has a goal and reading log to be completed for each book read and quiz taken. 

*Many students have missing work due to being absent during class and/or not turning in their assignments. This work must be turned in to receive a grade.

Welcome Back!

Week of Jan. 4-Jan. 8, 2010

Bellwork: This week our bellwork will focus on proofreading and Thinklink/TCAP review questions.

DGP/DRP Week 16- This is homework each night and is due each Friday. Students are encouraged to use their DGP/DRP packets that should be in their L.A. folders.

We will continue and complete the novel Red Scarf Girl. This week we will explore and identify different types of writing. We will also interpret non print media associated with our novel and other sources. We will investigate different forms of propaganda used in the novel and begin a Propaganda project.

We will begin STAR tests this week for new AR goals. Students must have an AR book and reading log with them at all times. We have many new AR books in our library as well as in our classroom library for students to read.

*REMINDER: ALL STUDENTS SHOULD HAVE A SPIRAL COMPOSITION BOOK TO KEEP IN THE CLASSROOM FOR TCAP VOCABULARY AND REVIEW.

November 23, 24 – HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

NO DGP/DRP this week.

Monday-We will continue our novel study of Red Scarf Girl. Students will answer comprehension questions from Chapters 1 and 2. Students will also work in cooperative groups and complete their job/assignment. *Enriched Class-Continue with Jigsaw discussions/roles.

HW: READ AR

Tuesday-Students will review the 5 different types of conflict by completing Lesson 22 of our TCAP Coach Book. Students will also participate in Reader’s Theatre in their groups to reinforce fluency and oral presentation skills.*Enriched Class-students describe each type of conflict and give an example of each.

ALL STUDENTS NEED A SPIRAL COMPOSITION BOOK TO KEEP IN THE CLASSROOM FOR OUR TCAP BOOK LESSONS/REVIEWS.

Monday-Tuesday: FALL BREAK

Wednesday:  The students will begin research on how we honor our heroes. We will also create a timeline. All students will write an essay with the following theme:“When Is The Right Time to Honor Our Military Heroes”

Homework: Read AR

Thursday: Students will create a 4-Square graphic organizer with topic, supporting sentences, details, transitions and conclusion. This will be homework if not completed in class. HW: Read AR, Complete Organizer

Friday: Students will create rough draft from 4-square organizer showing knowledge of theme, development of theme, and clarity of ideas/explanation of theme.

Homework: HAVE PARENTS/GUARDIAN READ AND SIGN ROUGH DRAFT OF ESSAY, READ AR
