Week of August 29, 2011

Language Arts:

All classes will begin Sounder novel study. Students have created folders for the novel study and have been given their literature job/role packets. Students are working in cooperative groups and will read assigned chapters among their groups. Each student is responsible for participating and completing the entire packet for a test grade at the end of the unit.

Throughout the novel study we will examine new vocabulary, literary elements, reading/comprehension skills, and increase our reading fluency. Students will not take their books home as I have only one class set. All reading for Sounder will be completed in class. DGP(Daily Grammar Practice) and DRP (Daily Reading Practice) will continue weekly as we work on grammar, parts of speech, sentence structure, and puncuation. Also, passages from the weekly DRP will continue to be analyzed and completed by Friday. DGP and DRP will be done independently at home as all students have been provided with packets/study guides for each day of the week. All students should have these packets in their required folder for Language Arts. Please note that any work not completed as assigned during class will become homework.

All students will complete a STAR test to determine their reading level. AR goals/points will be based upon this score. ALL STUDENTS are required to have an AR book with them in every class.

Supplies for Language Arts: Composition book, Folder/Binder for handouts and graded papers, and a spiral notebook to keep in class as we complete Thinklink and TCAP Review.
